Lake Management

Our lake is under constant threat

Like all bodies of water, Mirror Lake is a fragile ecosystem whose continuing existence and healthy longevity is up to us…all of us!

Without continuous intervention, focus and resources, our lake will die by transitioning to a swampy wetland.

Your community in action for the benefit of the lake

Friends of Mirror Lake (FOML) formed in 2017 as a volunteer community organization by concerned residents of Wrentham and Norfolk who live on and around the lake. We make it our mission to preserve and restore our fantastic lake, while driving an active, responsible, and caring neighborhood community that will benefit all generations. Learn more in this short video.

Leveraging accredited scientific research analysis and accepted remediation practices (in accordance with federal, state, and municipal laws), we seek to improve the water quality and health of the lake for the equal benefit of wildlife, fisheries, and humans. We aim to improve and sustain the lake's health to ensure it remains habitable for animals and humans. We also partner closely with Wrentham and Norfolk town officials, while also promoting a tight-knit lake community that bonds and collectively enjoys our fantastic natural resource.

Since its formation, Friends of Mirror Lake has:

  • Worked closely with the towns of Wrentham and Norfolk to obtain permits and funding to annually treat invasive and non-invasive aquatic plants, including: curly leaf pond weed, lilly pads and bladderwort
  • Successfully lobbied for Town funding for critical lake studies and infrastructure projects
  • Driven neighborhood and lake clean-up efforts
  • Developed and posted content around the lake and on our social feeds to help educate residents and visitors about how to be lake stewards
  • Organized educational events for residents and government officials
  • Formed stronger partnerships with neighboring Lake Archer and Lake Pearl volunteer organizations
  • Attended and presented at town meetings about our lake
  • Organized and conducted water health tests with licensed organizations.
  • Formed and expanded a thriving social media community
  • Identified potential sources of funding for longer-term lake improvement efforts
  • Created, promoted and hosted social events throughout the year
